Jessica Spellun, MD earned her B.A. with honors from New York University before receiving her medical degree from the Sackler School of Medicine, New York State/American Program of Tel Aviv University. She completed adult psychiatry residency training at New York Presbyterian-Weill Cornell Medicine where she was awarded the Alumni Council Distinguished Housestaff Award for clinical excellence. After residency, she completed the Public Psychiatry Fellowship at New York State Psychiatric Institute and Columbia University Medical Center to build additional expertise in meeting the complex mental health needs of individuals who experience systemic and interpersonal injustice and prejudice. In this spirit, she co-founded and served as Faculty Director of the Weill Cornell Medicine Wellness Qlinic which provides free mental health care to LGBTQIA+ adults in a unique model that centers on training the next generation of physicians and mental health providers in culturally responsive care for this community.

Prior to moving to Pennsylvania, Dr. Spellun served as psychiatrist for the Rockefeller University Student and Employee Mental Health Service and for the Weill Cornell Medicine Student Mental Health Program. She maintained a part-time private practice and has also worked as an attending psychiatrist in the Weill Cornell Medicine Comprehensive Psychiatric Emergency Program. She remains on voluntary faculty of Weill Cornell Medicine where she supervises and teaches medical students and psychiatry trainees on various topics including sexuality and gender.

Dr. Spellun has received training in multiple approaches to psychiatric care and psychotherapy including psychopharmacology and holistic approaches, psychodynamic psychotherapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavioral therapy, mindfulness based therapy, trauma focused therapy, problem focused therapy, and more. She provides highly individualized care tailored to each individual client’s needs. Most often therapy with her utilizes multiple approaches with transparency about specific decisions. Often therapy techniques are combined with medication follow up visits.
